Grain‐Size Distribution and Propagation Effects on Seismic Signals Generated by Bedload Transport

چکیده
Bedload transport is a key process in fluvial morphodynamics, but difficult to measure. The advent of seismic monitoring techniques has provided an alternative in-stream monitoring, which often costly and cannot be utilized during large floods. Seismic method requiring several steps convert data into bedload flux data. State-of-the-art conversion approaches exploit physical models predicting the signal generated by transport. However, due lack well-constrained validation data, accuracy resulting inversions unknown. We use field experiments constrain model compare results high-quality independent measurements. Constraining Green's function (i.e., ground properties) with active survey resulted average absolute difference between modeled empirically measured power 11 dB relevant frequency band. Using generically estimated parameters 20 dB, thus highlighting importance using actual parameters. Water turbulence grain hiding are unlikely cause differences observations our analysis. Rather, they may either inverted being particularly sensitive coarse tail grain-size distribution, least well constrained from observations, or underestimating effects largest grains.

Impact - generated seismic signals on Mars
Meteorite impacts will be a key seismic source for probing Mars’ interior during the InSight mission. Maximising data exploitation requires a good understanding of impact-generated seismic ground motions (waves), which has been limited by a lack of observational data and the practical difficulty of replicating relevant martian impact conditions in experiments. The aim of this PhD project is to ...

متن کاملExponential Formula for Bedload Transport
An exponential formula that does not involve the concept of the critical shear stress is derived in this study for computing bedload transport rates. The formula represents well various experimental data sets ranging from the weak transport to high shear conditions. Comparisons of the present study are also made with many previous bedload formulas commonly cited in the literature.
